Ravleen Sidhu - Vic - Youth B Female - Lead
Hi, I’m Ravleen. I am 13 years old, and I live in Melbourne. Outside of climbing, I enjoy playing the violin, which I have done for many years. I also enjoy hanging out with friends, running, art, and reading, and I love to write. I have a younger brother and we enjoy telling stories, making comedy skits, playing pranks on each other, and climbing together.
Although the first time I climbed was at a young age, I started climbing lessons when I was nine years old. When I was younger, I went to many birthday parties at places like clip and climb and would occasionally climb at gyms. By doing these things, I discovered that I enjoyed climbing, which is why I began lessons. My first lessons were lead climbing lessons at Gravity Worx. I then moved to Hardrock, and then Cliff Hanger and North Walls. When I was around twelve, I began bouldering lessons at Boulder Lab. Currently, I do bouldering and lead climbing with Grit Climbing. We climb at many gyms including Hardrock and Blochaus. Outside of lessons, I also climb at Urban Climb. I have only ever climbed indoors but am looking forward to climbing outdoors in the future.
Climbing is fun for me because I enjoy solving the problems on the walls, challenging myself, learning and practising new skills, and climbing with others. I also like heights! In my opinion, climbing is a unique and interesting sport.
I began climbing competitions when I was around nine. My first two competitions were competitions at Gravity Worx. I then competed in my first lead State Championships in 2020 at the age of 10. At the age of 11, I competed in the 2021 bouldering state championships. Unfortunately, due to COVID, I missed out on going to the Youth National Championships in both years. The following year, I qualified to represent Victoria in lead, boulder, and speed at the National Championships. Here, I placed 5th overall, which was exciting! This year, I participated in Nationals for boulder and lead. In lead, I came 2nd and qualified to join the Australian Team and participate in the Youth World Championships in Seoul!
