Ethan Naylor - Qld - Youth A Male - Lead
My name is Ethan Naylor and I am a young Anaiwain man with connections to the Wiradjuri & Ngemba Wailwan peoples. I live on Gubbi Gubbi Land on the Sunshine Coast.
How long you have been climbing?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a climber. In Armidale, where I was born, the only ‘gym’ was open twice a week from 7pm. But that wasn’t the greatest opportunity for an young boy. After moving to the Sunshine Coast, I quickly found the local gym and started my climbing journey in 2015.
Where you climb?
I climb and train at Flow Bouldering, as well as many crags in the Southeast Qld region.
What is your favourite discipline?
In terms of the competition scene, boulder and lead are definitely where I am aim for but climbing outdoors definitely beats pulling on plastic.
Hope/expectations for WYC?
The goal for the WYC is to qualify for semis, but also, I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of international climbers and learning as much as I can from the experience.
Do you have a fun fact about yourself......eg, a food you can’t go without, pre competition superstitions or routines?
I always begin a competition lead climb with the same process: Jacket off, tie in, shoes on, take off my watch, deep breath, then climb.
