Round 4 of the Pinnacle Social Series was held on 14 September at the Rock in Browns Plains, and attracted the usual crowd of social climbers intent on a fun day out. As always, the mixed format proved very popular, with some tough difficulty climbs, awesome boulder problems and an entertaining speed climb testing all the climbers out. Al Earley proved that he’s an age-group climber to watch, scoring yet another perfect 100 in his category, then backing up to compete against kids up to 3 years older than himself in Youth B. Matt Schimke from the Sunshine Coast breezed in to blitz the Youth B category, with strong competition from Mitch Cunninghame. Lucy Stirling also scored a perfect 100 to win the Youth B category, and Stephanie Larkin won Youth A, then backed up to place second in the Open Female category as well. For Tom O’Halloran and Cass Crane, this was their first competition since the World Youth Championships in Sydney, and they took out the Open Male and Female categories respectively, while Ben Spokes fired up to take second in Open Male.
The Rock has been a supporter of the Pinnacle Social Series for a number of years now, and it’s always great to get down there and climb in a gym with awesome features and a very laid-back feel. A huge thanks to Jimmy and the Rock for their continued support.
